Kijiji In The News: Watch where you plan to meet
Do you like this story?
Kijiji is not named in this story from Nova Scotia radio station web site News 95.7, but locals say it's the dominant online classified web site in the city of Halifax.
A late-night robbery has police warning the public to be careful using online classified sites.
Around 11:15 Sunday night, a man arrived at the corner of Spring Garden and Robie to meet a buyer for an iPod he was selling online.
Two men showed up and one of them suggested he had a knife, though it wasn't seen. The pair took the iPod, and other personal belongings from the victim and walked off.
Sgt. Mark Hobeck says people have to be careful when they meet up with online acquaintances.
"We certainly caution everybody when they're using online sites like that for pre-arranged meetings," he said. "It's virtually an anonymous way of meeting people or making this type of transaction, so you really never know what you're going to get into."
Hobeck says any kind of meeting should always be arranged for a public place during daylight hours.
