Feedback to Kijiji removing Personals section

Feedback has been pouring in ever since we reported yesterday that Kijiji Canada has removed its Personals section and replaced it with a recommendation that users turn to its "partner" site Lavalife.

Here are some comments from the Kijiji forum, where individuals are expressing their disappointment. Take it all with a grain of salt, folks. Most of these comments are littered with poor spelling, grammar and consistency of thought. They don't appear to come from the top of the dating food chain, so you can easily understand why the loss of anonymous and free hookups could be so devastating.

whyman69@live.ca: KIJIJI Should reconsider the personal ads, this was a great place to meet new people. It's nice not having to go into those dating sites when your just looking for friends, not a relationship. What about them moms looking to meet new moms, or just trying to meet new friends.

sergesaati: I don't understand why Kijiji has decided to close all dating ads. I think it's stupid, cause Kijiji ads were to much useful. I found many girls throught it. Just because some mad women post stupid comments on that. If they're not happy, they just have to quit the website and keep on their business. I found the idea illogic. I don't like lavalife. Furthermore, we need to pay for lavalife. And there's no "one night stand" category in lavalife, only romance. Yes, there's a lot of stupid persons that post "man looking for woman" in the "woman looking for man" category. Most of people don't take the time to read carefuly. People who respect rule pay for the other. it's the life

MrKatOwner: What kind of financial deal has taken place between Lavalife and Kijiji? This is obviously the #1 reason for the closure of the personals sections on all Kijiji sites. Does this mean we will be assaulted by Lavalife ads all over Kijiji now, including any of our posts on the site for buy/sell/trade? Corporate B.S., where your $$ is the only thing that's really important to these people...

norman-hart@hotmail.com: this site sucks without the personal ads. so never shall i go on it again. this site is just like getting like the government, they are changing what we like and basicly want tax money from us, this is crap. this site will fail soon cause they got rid of something that we liked

JP68: The only thing I ever used Kijiji for was the Personals. I don't have any other reason to visit Kijiji again, so you may as well close down the whole site as far as I am concerned. There are plenty of local sites I can go to to buy/sell/trade stuff - don't need Kijiji for that. Bye

Goodwyn: I agree taking away the personal adds was....not right. If people had a problem with them they should'nt go to them but for us people looking for relationships in the area it was great to have it...now it's gone where do I look now?

dragonflyember@hotmail.com: I don;t understand why the personal ads were removed. If the 'community' objected to them then they shouldn't have read them. I actually enjoyed the personals section and have met some great friends on the kijiji personals. I think that Lavalife just wants the money they lost out on when people met people for free and didn't pay for their services. Bunch of crock as far as I'm concerned. Guess it is time to find another 'free site' to meet people and advertise on.

assimilation: When the majority of the ads were fake, does it make sense to have them on here? How many ads did you get replies to that didn't consist of a link to a credit card scam or trace back to a Russian Volga-Girl site?

NbBi: I do not agree with the elimination of the "personals section" from this site. It has been an excellent vehicle for meeting knew people with similar interests. If there is objections to the content of certain ads then it is the responsibility of Kijiji to monitor the content, but not do away with this section completely.

I use kiji for sourcing ass and although I sympathize on a business level it still represents a substantial loss for me. As we all know ass is renewable resource whereas the automotive industry is quite polluting. Kiji has polluting cars in their top 3 based on user volume. If Kiji wishes to score environmental credits and ultimately reducee the carbon footprint by going green adding non polluting resources such as ass is a sound businedd plan. A second arguement is that we must invest more polluting carbon in the now less efficient effort to find these precious natural resources ie T&A.

Most dating sites either promote long term romance and the majority want MONEY to use.

If it was a site used by men (or women) only it would have no success. But it was a site that both sexes used (if they admitted it or not).

But when there is a demand, a site will appear. A kijiji replacement will appear. And when it does THAT is where I will take my buying/selling of small crap. Because I will go where the majority of ppl will go.

It was a bad decision Kijiji. Suck it up and stop listening to the complainers. They obviously were in desperate need of the personal section to loosen up.

The slap in the face is the lavalife plug. Come on. There are many BETTER sites to use that that place. POF, AdultFriendFinder, AshleyMadison and for the romantic inclined POF, Match.com. The problem is there was no better place in Canada to find horny singles that wanted a quick lay (online). Its back to the bar.

This post posted anonymously not because I am hiding my idea but out of laziness to create an account for one post.

I totally agree with all you guys out there about the removal of the personal ads. People that didn't like should have never been in it in the first place. And as for going to lavalife i hope know one actually dose go and pay them money for something that should be free, they must be making money to advertise it. When something is free for too long it eventually turns into wanting money. Its a same that it closed, and there truly was no harm in them ads.

The Anti Kijiji movement is picking up speed. More and more people are requesting an alternative to kijiji for articles for sale, vehicles, pets, personals and so on.

Lets focus a unified effort to replace Kijiji.

The latest Kijiji insult is they take the consumers money, then they delete the ad saying it violates some policy contained in a manual somewhere, then when the consumer writes in to complain they ignore them. This is criminal anywhere in the world. Check out the Kijiji forum people are freaking over this credit card rip off and deletion of ads.

So lets make a list of the top 5 alternatives to Kijiji and see if we can get someone to replace kijiji.

Listen up people...here's what went down.
Kijiji personals section has shut down at the request of the police, & here's why.
Through Kijiji personals section, in 01/2008, in an effort to stop his x wife, an x husband libelled her because she had been sexually slandering him from '98 to '08 to his previous female relationships, & co-workers where x wife once worked. X wife knew the damage this would cause him. He has been very damaged because of x wife's slanders. His co-workers mocked him daily & ridiculed his present wife.
It was 03/2009 by the time Kijiji disclosed x husband's IP address to the cops.
The cops charged x husband for libel at x wife's request. She was hoping he would get the maximum of 5 years in jail for libel.
X husband only got a 12-month probation, which the 'visits' actually ended into the sixth month on 'good behavior'. The cops, crown attorneys, defence lawyers & Judge, all realized the 'evil' of x wife's slanderous deeds. But the 'law' is the 'law', "right"?
Given the nature of the x husband's libellous kijiji ads in the personals section, it is assumed that Kijiji, persuaded by the police department, shut the personals section down.
Has the x wife stopped slandering x husband? May be, but those whom she told are still spreading the malicious sexual slanderous lies to this day.
Though regrettable that it took x husband this magtnitude of an action to deal with x wife's slanderous behavior, X husband apologizes for the inconveniences this has caused to all involved.
Nov/4/2011.
