Kijiji to cease operations next month ... in France
Do you like this story?
An article at Le Journal du Net reveals that kijiji.fr will close next month. Original article in French, translated here with some help from Google:
eBay has decided to close its free classifieds site, Kijiji.fr during the summer holidays. The company is telling members of the site that their ads will be available from that date on the online auction site ebay.fr online since in July 2009.Interesting that Kijiji is just shutting down and moving existing listings to the French eBay site, rather than refocusing and rebranding like they did in the USA with ebayclassifieds.
Launched in France in early 2007, Kijiji never really took off and has been marginalized by Leboncoin.fr in the niche of small classifieds. The site had about 1 million unique visitors in May.

Take a look at eBay.fr - it's split between regular eBay and "Petites Annonces" or classifieds. The real question is: why didn't they redirect Kijiji.fr sooner?
