Friday Fawn Foul: Kijiji-listed deer rescued, hailed as hero

What, you're not allowed to sell a deer on Kijiji? Is that in the terms of service or something?

From the Halifax Chronicle Herald, which scalped the story from The Canadian Press:

A fawn named Bella has been rescued and will eventually be returned to the wild after a person attempted to sell her on an Internet site for $300.
The Department of Natural Resources heard about an advertisement for the deer on the website Kijiji, which allows people to post free classified ads.
Dan Davis, a spokesman for the department, told CTV news that the department set up an operation where they posed as purchasers, and they then arrested two men and have charged them with violating laws that prohibit the purchase or sale of wild animals.
The ad featured the fawn watching television, standing on the couch and living in a house as a pet, and it said she was found by the vendor on the side of the road.
Bella is now living at the Hope for Wildlife Society, where she will be prepared to be released back into the wild when the hunting season ends.
The fine for selling a wild animal can be up to $2,000 in Nova Scotia.
A much better story (with a picture of a cute deer!) is online at the CBC, Canada's National Broadcaster That Doesn't Want You Posting Web Content On Your Own Blog, You Big Stealing Stealer!

Here was the original ad. Idiots

Hello I have a free range deer as a good pet I found her on the side of the road she likes carrots and other vegatables. Well trained; answers by the name "Bella". About 50 pounds, likes to give kisses like a dog, also likes to watch tv. Bella gets along well with cats and rabbits and enjoys to drink milk. Is able to stand up on her hind legs

I think you have it backwards - the Canadian Press picks up stories from local papers and distributes them to others. The Halifax paper was probably the original source. Either way, people are stoooooopid!!
