Rant: Kijiji buyers and phone numbers

Stumbled upon this rant worth noting and reply worth noting more, over at the GuitarsCanada forums:

Powdered Toast Man opens with:

WTF is with people replying to an ad on Kijiji and immediately asking for a phone number, or providing THEIR phone number and wanting you to call them? No name, no questions, just, "can you send me your phone number? When can I call?" Umm, you just emailed me so I know you have a computer, so why don't we start with a few emails first.
Now check out this solid reply from Hamstrung:
Probably to get down to it and get a deal done without wasting time with the following:

Email 1 - Potential buyer:
Do you still have it?

Email 2 - Seller:

Email 3 - Potential buyer:
Will you take $250 for it?

Email -4 Seller:
No, price is firm at $600.

Email -5 Potential buyer:
Ok I'll go $600

Email 6 - Seller:
Great, When and where do you want to meet?

......Seller.... waiting 5 days for a response....

Potential buyer:
Hey, Sorry I was away from my computer for a few days and didn't get the email.
Do you still have it?

Email 7 - Seller:
Yes! If the ad's there I still have it.

Email 8 - Potential buyer:
Ok, where do you live?

Email 9 - Seller:
I'd rather meet in a public location. What part of town are you in so we can find a mutually acceptable place for the transfer?

Email 10 - Potential buyer
I'm on the East side of town.

Email 11 - Seller:
Ok how about the Tim Horton's at the corner of 8th and Charles? I can be there about 5:15 tonight.

Email 12 - Potential buyer (8 pm)
Sorry dude didn't get your message till 6:30. How about tomorrow same time?

Email 13 - Seller:
Can't do it. Got something I have to do. How about Saturday at 1PM?

Email 14 - Potential buyer:
Ok... sounds good cya then? Sure you can't move on the price at all?

and on and on....

This kind of exchange is all too typical when I'm trying to sell or buy things through Kijiji. I'd rather get on the horn with someone right away and get on with it. If there's directions to be given, haggling to be done or any questions to be asked it can be done in one 5 minute talk instead of email ping pong or wondering if the guy is too lazy to remove an ad for a sold item or if he only checks his email once a month. I figure if you're answering the ad you're interested enough to talk. If someone's posting something for sale I'd assume they want to sell it as soon as possible. If not there's always eBay.
Can anyone identify with this?

OMG yes this happens all the time. The ones that I love, how much. Price in the ad is XXXX and they alway offer 1/2 of that. Come on people there is a reason the price is put in the ad in the first place. Those of us that want to sell our extra things, are NOT going to give it away. There is the freebie's in the buy and sell for that. If you do not have the money and are not serious in your inquiry please don't bother to email!!!!

I just received a renewal notice from Kijiji advertising my condos for rent. I DID NOT RECEIVE ONE REQUEST from a potential guest in one full year - what's up with you Kijiji??????

Why would I renew my ad??????

Completely. I don't even respond to people who just send a phone number. I post my number so why do people expect me to pay for a long distance call to satisfy their inquiry? My number is there. Call it on your dime!

Just had this happen to me! I got a reply asking for my number immediately. I'll only give out my number when I'm positive there is going to be a sale made.

I had similar thing happen past couple days with a guitar I've got for sale. The sleazy bastard offered $100 (selling price is $150 n reduced already) so I ignored him. Next day he emails back saying he'll be right over to pick it up when I had no intention of selling to a cheap bastard. He didn't know where I lived anyways. I told him no since the guitar had already been upgraded extensively n was same price (often less) than used guitars of the same type without the upgrade. The fucker kept arguing saying I didn't deserve what I was asking. I know its strong language but when people are that damn sleazy they deserve no respect.
