Well, in the extreme close-up version of the pic, I was able to make out a patent number.

Here is what the Unknown Thing is:

It is US Patent D344588: Clip for covering a tooth. The ornamental design for a clip for covering a tooth, as shown and described. It was invented by "Park Young H" and the patent was issued in 1994.
