Kijiji paypal scams: Lisa Macedo and Mary Cole are fake!

I'm seeing an awful lot of traffic here lately from people looking for information on Kijiji paypal scams. People are thankfully suspicious enough about the people offering to buy their stuff that they search the names of the senders. They end up hear learning about the fraud they just avoided.

If you get an email from a Lisa Macedo, or a Mary Cole, or Julie Chen or any of the other made-up names offering to buy your item without seeing it, asking you to ship it because they're in a foreign place and can't see what you're selling, it IS a scam.

I'm not saying it might be a scam or that you should proceed with caution. I'm saying it's a fraud, it's baloney, it's entirely bogus and you should absolutely not proceed.

According to comments on a post from YouSuckatKijiji.com more than a year ago, some of the fake names used over and over again by these scammers include but are not limited to:

  • Julie Chen or Julie-mansor Chen - juliechen1983@gmail.com or chenjulie0@gmail.com for example
  • Mike Goodrich - MikeGoodrichw1@gmail.com
  • Veronica Wilson - veronicawilson1236@gmail.com
  • Charlie-Carter Morgan
  • Mary Cole

Here's the sort of email you might get:
"Thanks for the response Does it need anything to be replace or repair?if theirs please specify,i will take it for the listed price,Payment will be sent using PayPal and i will handle the PayPal surcharge as well.I will arrange with someone to have this picked up for your location once i have paid as i am out of town at the moment. I would appreciate if you email me with more pictures (if available) too, since i won't be be able to see this in person, what's the PayPal email to send funds to in order for me to pay you ASAP. "

If you landed here because you searched for any of the text above: congratulations. You're the target of fraud.

You might also get a Paypal offer by text message for your Kijiji listing. Be smart. Don't fall for it.

Remember: Deal in person. Deal locally. Use cash.

Understand? If you ship to someone you don't know without having real cash money in your hand, you are a fool. Don't do it. These scams are easy to avoid. Avoid them.

So do you think these losers have some sort of computer generated response? We just got this exact response from Charlie-Carter Morgan but didn't respond because it was so clearly a scam.

Hey all. Please add Emily Syntire to the list of names to watch for. I am currently having an email discussion insisting I use paypal. I keep refusing. Then I did a search and found this site. I have received an email WORD FOR WORD, even the same spelling mistakes as mentioned above in the messages you might get. Obviously the same person. I have reported the email, but unfortunately, this will not catch the bastard. All we can do is let others know. Again, the name EMILY SYNTIRE. Be careful.

Not kidding, it is word for word. cut and pasted. These pricks need to be stopped and punished.

I love a bargain, so i would like to get it as soon as i can.I would be able to make payment through paypal, i find it the easiest way to use my credit card safely and is a safe and reliable method of payment... Well, it appears Emily is a busy gal! Just got this response for a pool table!

Thanks for the response Does it need anything to be replace or repair?if theirs please specify,i will take it for the listed price,Payment will be sent using PayPal and i will handle the PayPal surcharge as well.I will arrange with someone to have this picked up for your location once i have paid as i am out of town at the moment. I would appreciate if you email me with more pictures (if available) too, since i won't be be able to see this in person, what's the PayPal email to send funds to in order for me to pay you ASAP.

Word for word the same message! Not sure how the fraud works? They want a PayPal email so obviously they can somehow access the personal information from that information?
Thanks for the heads up, I am on my way to delete the communication!
The old adage appears to be true "if it sounds too good to be true, it is!"
Cheers!

This Emily must have a lot of free time on her hands. I she has just been in touch with me, too. Odd that she is interested in purchasing furniture at 2:56 a.m. I just copied and pasted these pages to her email accounts and asked her to "explain".

Just got the same message regarding an item I have on Kijiji. This is the email address exceedinggrace1-a887@yahoo.com How does this scam work?

Anonymous said...
January 6, 2014 at 2:12 PM

I have also been scammed by this scam creep. I went as far as setting up a PayPal account (although I felt something was not quite right) and then when "she" sent the mailing info it said Nigeria and she wanted the answers to my confidential questions. I immediately deleted the pay pal accounts, changed all my passwords and contacted Pay Pal for investigation. I now am getting bogus invoices from "her" saying I owe her $600 and the FBI will be investigation and charging me if I don't pay up. What a piece of work this "Emily" is. Add Keshia David to this list as well.

January 7, 2014 at 12:44 PM

Yes, Keshia David is the latest name to add, "she" is trying to purchase furniture from me as we speak. I just sent her a legit paypal invoice, and I'm waiting for the reply where she claims she needs some extra payment...is it wrong to toy with these people?

I've received many of these emails in the past as I move a lot of products thru Toronto Kijiji. Last night I received and email from "Emily Syntire <emilysyntire123@gmail.com" asking the standard cut and paste bad spelling/bad grammar request for my PayPal account info. I contacted the Toronto Internet Fraud division but they said there is nothing they can do about it. What the fuck do you mean there is nothing they can do about it I asked! It's fraud, and it's on the internet.

MAYBE IF PEOPLE START CALLING THE POLICE THEY WILL BE FORCED TO DO THEIR JOBS AND CATCH THESE MOTHERFUCKERS!

REPORT THEM IN TORONTO HERE:

same thing occurred to me few days ago...here is the email from the illiterate Emily Syntire who need s to take English as a second language to improve her writing capabilities..here is her petty fraudulent email...

It is important we know the status of the merchandise bought from you by one of our clients, Emily Syntire with Transaction ID:9XR6056157684563M, otherwise legal action will be taken against you since you have not e-mailed us the western union money transfer information and scanned receipt of the western union money transfer.

We believed you entered into agreement by requesting money through PayPal from the buyer, and by not e-mailing us with the details of the western union money transfer information, you are violating PayPal users agreement in act of the 1999 Law in collaboration with the World Law Enforcement Agency.

You are now mandated to transfer the sum of $1,100.00 CAD to the buyer's shipping company as part of the amount to send and email us the proof of transfer within the next 24hrs, failure to do so would result to the involvement of the FBI for violating PayPal's instructions and users agreement in act of the 1999 Law in collaboration with the World Law Enforcement Agency.

We are ensuring to make Online Transaction a safer place, therefore we need to set confidence on all our users.

Transport Company: "Freight Forwarder"

Name: Yunbiao Ren
Address : 10 Jiuxianqiao Lu,
City: Beijing,
State: Beijing
Post Code: 100015,
Country: China.

We request for the western union money transfer information from or western union Money to prove the transfer has been made within the next 24hrs and we will fund the money into your account or you will face the consequences of LEGAL ACTION.

This is done for the protection of both the seller and buyer from the ongoing internet fraud activities.

Thanks for using PayPal Online Payment !!.

Also add Angelina Paul and Jane Herich...Exact texts,,word for word...living far away..pay by paypal. I'm smart enough to get it quickly, but I worry about elderly people who might fall prey to these jerks. So a word of warning...if your mom or pops need anything sold, sell it for them so they don't fall victims to a$$holes like these....

First I got a text asking if I still had the furniture for sale from phone number 1 514 416 8985, and if so could I email her at janeherich1@outlook.com (the furniture is about 60 10 ft pews) I said yes and sent her a video link where they are posted on youtube. She responded.Jane Herich (janeherich1@outlook.com)

what is your price ? $400 each Carl Hayden - Carls AquariumHi, I am Jane Herich. I'm satisfied with the price and i really want to buy it. I would have love to come for the viewing by the weekend, but My place is way too far from there in which i am located in Cape Breton. So i thought of how to make this transaction work between us, which i came to conclusion with my husband to use a courier company to pick up the item from your place but we will send the money to your account first and after you get the money in your account, the pick up company will come to help us carry it. Since i'd not be seeing the item before i purchase it, i would like you to send some recent pictures of its present state to be sure you still have it and its in good condition. If the pictures pleases me, then we can go ahead with the transaction and will send the money to you without delay.... Lest i forget, i would be transferring the funds to you through PayPal. Please reply with your opinion ASAP Thanks.. ( I was happy until I got to the line about Pay Pal)Did you watch the video, when you see one you like see what time it is in the video and and I can stop by and take a bunch of pictures of the specific one you are interested in, we are not setup for pay pal, we do email money transfers instead. She sent back, I can only do paypal. I sent back. Emails from people who will not do EMT and will only do pay pal are always fraudulent that is why we only do EMT
