Kijiji paypal scams: Lisa Macedo and Mary Cole are fake!

I'm seeing an awful lot of traffic here lately from people looking for information on Kijiji paypal scams. People are thankfully suspicious enough about the people offering to buy their stuff that they search the names of the senders. They end up hear learning about the fraud they just avoided.

If you get an email from a Lisa Macedo, or a Mary Cole, or Julie Chen or any of the other made-up names offering to buy your item without seeing it, asking you to ship it because they're in a foreign place and can't see what you're selling, it IS a scam.

I'm not saying it might be a scam or that you should proceed with caution. I'm saying it's a fraud, it's baloney, it's entirely bogus and you should absolutely not proceed.

According to comments on a post from YouSuckatKijiji.com more than a year ago, some of the fake names used over and over again by these scammers include but are not limited to:

  • Julie Chen or Julie-mansor Chen - juliechen1983@gmail.com or chenjulie0@gmail.com for example
  • Mike Goodrich - MikeGoodrichw1@gmail.com
  • Veronica Wilson - veronicawilson1236@gmail.com
  • Charlie-Carter Morgan
  • Mary Cole

Here's the sort of email you might get:
"Thanks for the response Does it need anything to be replace or repair?if theirs please specify,i will take it for the listed price,Payment will be sent using PayPal and i will handle the PayPal surcharge as well.I will arrange with someone to have this picked up for your location once i have paid as i am out of town at the moment. I would appreciate if you email me with more pictures (if available) too, since i won't be be able to see this in person, what's the PayPal email to send funds to in order for me to pay you ASAP. "

If you landed here because you searched for any of the text above: congratulations. You're the target of fraud.

You might also get a Paypal offer by text message for your Kijiji listing. Be smart. Don't fall for it.

Remember: Deal in person. Deal locally. Use cash.

Understand? If you ship to someone you don't know without having real cash money in your hand, you are a fool. Don't do it. These scams are easy to avoid. Avoid them.

Hey all. Please add Emily Syntire to the list of names to watch for. I am currently having an email discussion insisting I use paypal. I keep refusing. Then I did a search and found this site. I have received an email WORD FOR WORD, even the same spelling mistakes as mentioned above in the messages you might get. Obviously the same person. I have reported the email, but unfortunately, this will not catch the bastard. All we can do is let others know. Again, the name EMILY SYNTIRE. Be careful.

Sorry, the name is Emily Syntire, emails are; exceedinggrace1-a630@yahoo.com, or esyntire@gmail.com.
Not kidding, it is word for word. cut and pasted. These pricks need to be stopped and punished.

Text of email was: "Thanks for your reply,i just wanted to make sure all bases are covered !I'm satisfied with the condition but how long have you owned it?? and what's your lowest price for it. I love a bargain, so i would like to get it as soon as i can.I would be able to make payment through paypal, i find it the easiest way to use my credit card safely and is a safe and reliable method of payment... Let me know your price for it .I hope to hear from you soon, and i will make all transportation preparations for the it to be transported to my home."

Well, it appears Emily is a busy gal! Just got this response for a pool table!

Thanks for the response Does it need anything to be replace or repair?if theirs please specify,i will take it for the listed price,Payment will be sent using PayPal and i will handle the PayPal surcharge as well.I will arrange with someone to have this picked up for your location once i have paid as i am out of town at the moment. I would appreciate if you email me with more pictures (if available) too, since i won't be be able to see this in person, what's the PayPal email to send funds to in order for me to pay you ASAP.

Word for word the same message! Not sure how the fraud works? They want a PayPal email so obviously they can somehow access the personal information from that information?
Thanks for the heads up, I am on my way to delete the communication!
The old adage appears to be true "if it sounds too good to be true, it is!"
Cheers!

This Emily must have a lot of free time on her hands. I she has just been in touch with me, too. Odd that she is interested in purchasing furniture at 2:56 a.m. I just copied and pasted these pages to her email accounts and asked her to "explain".

Just got the same message regarding an item I have on Kijiji. This is the email address exceedinggrace1-a887@yahoo.com How does this scam work?

Anonymous said...
January 6, 2014 at 2:12 PM

I have also been scammed by this scam creep. I went as far as setting up a PayPal account (although I felt something was not quite right) and then when "she" sent the mailing info it said Nigeria and she wanted the answers to my confidential questions. I immediately deleted the pay pal accounts, changed all my passwords and contacted Pay Pal for investigation. I now am getting bogus invoices from "her" saying I owe her $600 and the FBI will be investigation and charging me if I don't pay up. What a piece of work this "Emily" is. Add Keshia David to this list as well.

Anonymous said...
January 7, 2014 at 12:44 PM

Yes, Keshia David is the latest name to add, "she" is trying to purchase furniture from me as we speak. I just sent her a legit paypal invoice, and I'm waiting for the reply where she claims she needs some extra payment...is it wrong to toy with these people?

I've received many of these emails in the past as I move a lot of products thru Toronto Kijiji. Last night I received and email from "Emily Syntire <emilysyntire123@gmail.com" asking the standard cut and paste bad spelling/bad grammar request for my PayPal account info. I contacted the Toronto Internet Fraud division but they said there is nothing they can do about it. What the fuck do you mean there is nothing they can do about it I asked! It's fraud, and it's on the internet.

MAYBE IF PEOPLE START CALLING THE POLICE THEY WILL BE FORCED TO DO THEIR JOBS AND CATCH THESE MOTHERFUCKERS!

same thing occurred to me few days ago...here is the email from the illiterate Emily Syntire who need s to take English as a second language to improve her writing capabilities..here is her petty fraudulent email...

It is important we know the status of the merchandise bought from you by one of our clients, Emily Syntire with Transaction ID:9XR6056157684563M, otherwise legal action will be taken against you since you have not e-mailed us the western union money transfer information and scanned receipt of the western union money transfer.

We believed you entered into agreement by requesting money through PayPal from the buyer, and by not e-mailing us with the details of the western union money transfer information, you are violating PayPal users agreement in act of the 1999 Law in collaboration with the World Law Enforcement Agency.

You are now mandated to transfer the sum of $1,100.00 CAD to the buyer's shipping company as part of the amount to send and email us the proof of transfer within the next 24hrs, failure to do so would result to the involvement of the FBI for violating PayPal's instructions and users agreement in act of the 1999 Law in collaboration with the World Law Enforcement Agency.

We are ensuring to make Online Transaction a safer place, therefore we need to set confidence on all our users.

Transport Company: "Freight Forwarder"

Name: Yunbiao Ren
Address : 10 Jiuxianqiao Lu,
City: Beijing,
State: Beijing
Post Code: 100015,
Country: China.

We request for the western union money transfer information from or western union Money to prove the transfer has been made within the next 24hrs and we will fund the money into your account or you will face the consequences of LEGAL ACTION.

This is done for the protection of both the seller and buyer from the ongoing internet fraud activities.

As for the payment..i can only pay via the fastest and secure way to pay online(PayPal) here.

I have a private courier agent that will come for the pick up after the payment have been made...

You can now send me your PayPal email so i can pay in right away and also include your address in your reply. If you don't have a paypal account, you can easily set up one...log on to www.paypal.com.au and sign up its very easy... i would have loved to talk to you on phone but i work mainly offshore, our phone is down on the rig right now due to bad weather, that was why i sent you a text, i even wonder how my message deliver to your phone but for now we can only communicate through the same mailing channel.await your reply asap.

Hi Jane

You should be ashamed of yourself ripping people off! You are a terrible scammer and a terrible human being praying on innocent people!

I hate thieves! You deserve to be punished and I hope you and your family experience bad karma!

Most of all I hope you get caught! You obvious don't believe in a higher power but you will get yours when your time comes.

Why don't you spend your time doing something positive and influential? Wait, your are incapable because you don't have a soul. Your are pure evil!

I just got a text from "Parker" tel. number 843-405-4462, wanting to buy my piano and have it shipped from Ontario to South Carolina!!!! We texted back and forth for a bit, but I still wasn't quite comfortable about the distance. This is the first time I have used kijiji and only just found out from my daughter that it is a local buyer/seller setup, so then I obviously got suspicious and sent "Parker" a text saying I sold the piano locally.
I thought because they were talking of payment through Pay Pal that it was legit, but I guess the scammers have found some way around that too.

If you have one already, just send me the address to send it to, which is the email address you use for it or you can send me a paypal money request, so once i receive the details i will go ahead with the payment through PayPal and then i will contact my shipping company after you get the payment. I will need your home address for the merchandise to be Picked Up by the Shipping Company..

Hi, I am Jane Herich. I'm satisfied with the price and i really want to buy it. I would have love to come for the viewing by the weekend, but My place is way too far from there in which i am located in Cape Breton. So i thought of how to make this transaction work between us, which i came to conclusion with my husband to use a courier company to pick up the item from your place but we will send the money to your account first and after you get the money in your account, the pick up company will come to help us carry it. Since i'd not be seeing the item before i purchase it, i would like you to send some recent pictures of its present state to be sure you still have it and its in good condition. If the pictures pleases me, then we can go ahead with the transaction and will send the money to you without delay.... Lest i forget, i would be transferring the funds to you through PayPal. Please reply with your opinion ASAP Thanks.

... C'est quoi le fond de l'histoire ?

Crummy arseholes. I wonder how many poor souls they suck in who either don't have a well calibrated Hinky Meter, or who don't bother to google first? There is special place in Hades for scammers.

3rd e-mail: here i told her i don't have a paypal account
Hi, paypal is the easiest, simplest and most secure way to make payment online. You can open an account with them on www.paypal.com and when you open it, we transfer the money to your paypal account with the email you used to open the the account with them. As soon as we send the money to your account, then you can transfer it to your bank account or your credit card.

She could've got me very easily. I just created the account with paypal then I thought it was a bit too much just for a furniture and I googled her name just in case.
Thank you guys for reporting the account!

So i thought of how to make this transaction work between us, which i came to conclusion with my husband to use a courier company to pick up the item from your place but we will send the money to your account first and after you get the money in your account, the pick up company will come to help us carry it. Please reply with your opinion ASAP Thanks. If you are satisfied with this, please get back to me with the following info, so that i can proceed with the payment at once.

Thanks for posting guys, got the same text from Jane Herich janeherich01@outlook.com

Started with a text from 647 738 5341. then came an odd response to my email when I already told them the price. "Hi, what is your asking price, then where are you located and what is your number ?"
Something didn't feel right and this lead me to search their name leading me here.

same thing here. Angelina Paul is pregnant and can't come pick up my 30 foot camper, so her husband and her will send a courier. I wonder how many poor people might actually get taken by this BS.
